Last year, I did this race and finished 3rd female and wouldn’t you know it, the two women who placed ahead of me were signed up again. Re-match! I went into the day intent to give it all I had because, well, I wanted to see if I could do it.

Last year, I did this race and finished 3rd female and wouldn’t you know it, the two women who placed ahead of me were signed up again. Re-match! I went into the day intent to give it all I had because, well, I wanted to see if I could do it. This is a misleading title. Why? Because this post isn’t so much about this particular triathlon as it is about my past week. Also because the real thing I want to talk about is what I accomplished last Wednesday night, not what I did Saturday morning. I’m trying to resist opening with the snore-worthy comment about being oh-so-busy and not posting promptly. Oops. Too late. Kerr Lake is my first of the Try Sports series of races. I have four on the schedule that serve as preparation and practice for the big show in November – Long Course Worlds. Just finished my first triathlon of the season yesterday. It’s a fun race that only a little over an hour from my house that gives out a fancy, schmancy belt buckle to the top male and female finishers. My friend Alisha won it a couple years ago, so I wanted to give it a go. Oh yeah and give myself a sprint distance race target in May to get myself motivated and what’s better than a little bling to get oneself motivated? Er…cold hard cash but never mind that. Onward. I ran a 5k yesterday morning in downtown Raleigh, NC. The short version is that I won and finished a little bit disappointed with my time. Feel free to click through if you’re interested in more details, although I’m not sure how much I’ll come up with. For a real entertaining report and even more impressive result, I recommend clicking here. A stretch to call this a race report. Maybe a workout report? There comes a point when one begins to question the value of writing a race report because so much time has passed since the event. I’m trying to avoid that here (barely) with this brief sharing of thoughts as related to the event last Saturday. This event finishes out my winter ultrarunning phase. My report continues below… Alert! Alert! If anyone cares… |
