Should I Offer Triathlon Coaching?

I get asked about this all the time.  My usual response is naaahhh…I don’t really want to be writing workouts all the time for other people and, besides, aren’t there a million thousand other people who do this already?  Just locally- never mind nationwide?  And are friends of mine?  Is there really enough demand for yet another tri coach around here?

So I say this but am faced with two big reasons why I’m thinking about changing my tune.

Talent Pipeline Development in Triathlon

Talent pipelines and talent development in a business setting are something that I give a fair amount of attention to in my professional responsibilities.  Lately, I got to thinking about this topic as it relates to triathlon.

The Importance of Hunger

This may not be the ideal point of the season to talk about this, since so many are building into some A races in the next couple months, but it’s salient for me and will be for you at some point over the next 12 months.  Additionally, this post should give you some insight into how I managed to outperform expectations at Tri Nats and Du Worlds last season.  No matter what my posts may have sounded like, I didn’t just train haphazardly, show up and hope for the best.  I spent the entire season preparing with those goals in mind.  Here’s how.

On the Career Front

I know my posting has become pretty anemic with barely weekly kiddo reports and the occasional update on whether I happen to be running or not (I am now).  One reason that I have posted less has to do with my efforts on the career front.  So what’s the scoop?

Health Insurance and Social Ideology

I know this is an odd forum for this discussion, but when it comes to discussing the unmentionables of politics and religion, that ship has sailed.  Besides, it’s my forum and I can say what I want so long as I don’t come off like a dangerous terrorist.  Using that word should make me come up on some super secret government internet search, so I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome federal agents to my little blog about triathlon training and my toddler son.  Enjoy.

Systems, Incentives and U.S. Government

A couple weeks ago, I was having a lively discussion with my hard core Libertarian and Rush Limbaugh fan husband about government.   It’s so easy to take pot shots at the Dems for their spread the wealth and take care of the downtrodden policies driving to a socialist/communist society, but I say that misses the point.  Take a step back, I say, and consider the systems and incentives that drive ALL politicians in their policy-making.
