There comes a point when one begins to question the value of writing a race report because so much time has passed since the event. I’m trying to avoid that here (barely) with this brief sharing of thoughts as related to the event last Saturday.
The race is produced by my sponsors, Bull City Running, and they always always do an awsome job. Really. I would say that even if I weren’t on the team.
Anyway, I wanted to do this run as a segueway into shorter distance running events. Twelve miles sound like a lot? Well not so much if one has been running the likes of 30-40 milers.
The event was great fun and an opportunity to see new and old friends before, after and during the race. I ended up 2nd female by a large gap to an impressive and very sweet and young Meagan. She’s in a very different league than the likes of me.
Having said that, I think I did well. It’s hard to made heads or tails of a trail run finish time if one hasn’t done that particular one before, but I did finish faster than the previous year’s winner. Also, I felt strong throughout and was ready to be finding that finish line about a 11 miles in. These things suggest that I paced myself well according to my ability on the day.
Overall, I recommend the event. Hopefully next year they will work things out with the locals so they won’t have to cancel the 50k option. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll run the 50k option.
P.S. I took an e21 capsule before the event, so I’m sure that helped too. If you’re interested in giving these things a shot, track me down to get a sample.
