Typically, I like to do these on or around Remy’s monthly “anniversary”, but since the 7th coincided with our weekend adventure in the mountains, this didn’t happen quite so promptly. This delay suggests neither a lack of excitement nor activity, so here’s hoping I can remember most of it.
Talking Fine. It is truly a wonder how quickly children pick up language at this age. It’s music to my ears to hear “Mommy home!” I remember when he had just a handful of words of which Mama was one of them, but was always and only said with a whine. Not so any more! Another fun thing that Remy does is save up his new verbal tricks and show them off when he’s got one on one time with Mommy. It’s pretty obvious that I’m the one who disappears during the day.
Hey now. Is one example of snarky comments that Remy has learned from his Mommy. It’s used when Mom disappears into her office and is subsequently discovered by the wiley toddler. I think I’ve mentioned the darn it’s, oh gosh’s, oh god’s and other clever sayings that all orginate from my potty mouth. Speaking of potty…
Potty Training. We never intended to start this early, but Remy clearly knew what the potty was all about and he kept trying to pull off his diapers. Gary got him a bunch of cute, little undies and they are a big hit. We’ve had varying degrees of success with the potty training. On the one hand, he understands that he’s not supposed to pee willy nilly and does a pretty good job of holding it. On the other hand, he sometimes temporarily forgets that he’s not supposed to pee willy nilly and doesn’t realiably communicate his need to visit the potty. As a result, we spend a lot of time and energy asking him if he needs to potty and putting him there regardless. The kicker is that after he pees in the potty, sometimes he takes off running upstairs to “get clean undies.” Um, son, the idea would be to not need to do that every time. Anwway, we’re sticking with it. I offer him the option of pull-up’s or undies and he usually picks undies. By the way, naps and nighttime are diapers. This is non-negotiable.
Another Haircut. Gary and Remy went to the barber shop the other day for Remy’s second haircut. All the sun-bleached hair is trimmed off and he looks so different! I wasn’t there for the event, but I hear that Remy didn’t dig the cape thingie. Also, he repeatedly whined “Almost done! Almost done! Almost done!” as the barber tried to finish the hair do. Or hair don’t, because from the looks of the shaggy section in the back of his head, the little guy didn’t stay very still.
Bookworm. Remy loves his books. What could be better than reading all his books over and over? Why, checking out more books from the library, of course! That and reciting phrases from his books at random times throughout the day and night. The kid has an impressive memory.
That’s all I can think of right now. I’m sure I’ve missed some good stuff, but it’s hard enough to set aside time to write these things, much less make a comprehensive record of all things Remy.

We’ve got a buthchered haircut here as well thanks to a squirly kid. Zach also hates the cape . I’m impressed with the potty training success. We let Zach pick out some underwear this weekend but I’m too chicken to actually put them on him yet.
