“New” Stuff For The Kiddo

It’s not a holiday.  It’s nobody’s birthday.  There’s no particular special occasion at all.  I just decided that Remy was old enough for certain items, so we’ve been on the Craigs List look out for reasonably priced versions of the wish list.

The first thing to make it’s way off the interwebs into our humble household is a play kitchen.  Remy loves to spend quality time putting things in and out of the sink and cabinets, making loud noises and generally imitating Daddy’s cooking gyrations.  This can be particularly perilous while Gary is cooking, so the Remmer often ends up in a high chair, which is sort of like the cat bird seat but probably not really.

Eventually, I figure, Remy will tire of just sitting, nibbling pre-dinner snacks and watching all the action.  So, I thought, how about his own little kitchen?  We finally found one that doesn’t look hideous (i.e., pink and/or with freakishly smiling appliances) that fits right in the corner of the dining room next to kitchen.  By gosh, it even blends with our decor.  Perfect!

Ta da!

We also have our eyes peeled for a toddler sized table and chair combo.  There’s a nice space under the stairs usable by really short people (toddlers) where the pack and play used to be.  Not that he ever played in the pack and play– it was a secondary nap location.

Again, we’re hoping to not look awful against our living room furniture, so that limits the options.  We didn’t move quickly enough on a couple of alternatives the past few weeks, but now we’re in touch with a lady in Hurdle Mills that has something that would work and not cost us much.  So Gary went out there today and, lo and behold, the table/chair combo fits together to make a nice high chair that works way better than the booster seat we’re using for Remy at the dinner table.  Eventually, we will use it as a chair and table.

In related news, Remy says duck, truck, walk, stick, but they all sound like “gock.”  Meaning is context dependent.  Actually, he’s getting pretty good at talking.  I have a video of him saying wrist, although it sounds more like yeast.  I’ll get that up on Facebook.  Eventually he will catch up to all of the more talkative babes his age and younger.

Here’s the video for those non-Facebookers:

That kitchen set looks awesome. We need something like that. He say’s “Mommy cooking” and then tries getting his hands up on the burner. His own little stove and oven that doesn’t actually get hot might be the perfect alternative to setting himself on fire.

And Remy looks like he is really thinning out and getting tall. Zach is still a bit of a fatty.

  • Yeah, Remy’s still wearing the same clothes from months ago, except now we don’t have to roll up the pants. Although, with all the major feeding lately, he might be gearing up for another growth spurt. He’s still a solid chunk of baby and heavier than he looks.

Scott built a wooden stand (with 4 sides) that moana can crawl into and stand on so she is at kitchen counter height… this has allowed me to cook dinner while she stands at the counter and ‘helps’. And yes- they do love having their own table and chairs, don’t they? We don’t have that yet for Moana but whenever she’s at a friend’s house (who does have one) she sits at that little table the whole time. Pretty cute. :)
Isn’t it awesome how smart they are now?
