Last night, I was reminiscing about the trip that Alisha Little Lion, myself and Gary took to the open hill country of Western Texas three years ago. There are so many memories from that trip, including:
- riding long every day except when it snowed
- false flat roads that go straight forever
- seeing herds of pronghorns
- getting more flat tires than I had tubes for and getting a lift back from a policeman
- head wind from every direction
- bonking all the time and struggling with the elevation
- that stupid, relentless headwind
- getting dropped by Alisha into a headwind at 14 mph
- getting dropped by Alisha multiple times a day
- my sorry attempt at motor pacing
- Gary’s motorpacing pacing w/ Alisha going 40 mph uphill
- eating Mexican food in Presidio
- the amazing warm water swim spring in Balmorhea
- the climb to the observatory
- hitting a mule deer on the drive home from Terlingua
- riding through quirky, artsy Marfa
- the bike shop dude in Alpine
- pissed off hunters
- and much, much more
We packed more experiences and adventures into that 7 day period than any other week I can remember. For those of you who didn’t follow the blog back then, here’s a link to the series of posts from that trip. A little bit crazy, but the memories are so worth it.

This post has me desperately wanting to go on a bike trip. Looks like you guys had a great time. The best trips are those that result in lots of “stories.”
