Over the years of racing I’ve learned that I only have so many matches. More specifically, I only have TWO of those big, long fireplace matches per year.
I can race fairly often, but can do that DIG REALLY DEEP thing a couple times. In 2007, that was Tri Worlds and Silverman. Years before, I can’t remember exactly, but it was definitely ony a couple times per year. It could be psycho-emotional reasons more than physical, but a real limitation I must consider, nonetheless.
This year, I have yet to find the motivation to pull out the big matches. That’s just as well, because I figure Tri Nats and Du Worlds deserve bigger efforts than local sprint tri’s.
I am beginning to feel the buzz of that old competitive fire. I want to do well by preparing well (within the limits of my re-prioritized schedule), so I find myself making plans to optimize my chances. So will I dig deep in Tuscaloosa?
In theory, I want to, but the truth will be known during the run around 10am on August 22nd. Can I keep it together in the Alabama heat? We will see…
