Back in 2007, I did Silverman Iron Distance Triathlon. One of the prizes was a grassroots sponsorship in 2008 with Tyr which is a pretty cool deal.
Except that I wasn’t racing in 2008. Ryan the Tyr Sales Manager offered to delay the sponsorship until the following year. Aha. Cool deal again.
Except that they cancelled the grass roots sponsorship program for 2009. I imagine this has something to do with being the official gear of Ironman(R) now. I think I saw this somewhere.
Now, if I were a Chrissie Wellington, TJ Tollakson, Pip Taylor kind of athlete, maybe they’d sign me up for a real sponsorship, but, alas, I am not. But Ryan did me a favor and sent me a bunch of gear– training swim suits, goggles, caps. The stuff got sent with the wrong address and came back to them and finally made it to my front porch a week ago, right before we left for Nelson Bay.
Sweet! New goggles for the race! All the better to sight with. I will say that the Tyr Tracer Femme’s are every bit as good as the Speedo Women’s Vanquishers. I’ll forgive him for the fact that they are bright pink. Beggars can’t be choosers.
PINK SPEEDO WOMEN’S VANQUISHERS are my favorite and as I have said before, I get a pair before EACH race and have literally hundreds. Shipped a ton off to Kloner for her goggle collection for less fortunate kids…..Congrats on your new stuff!
