The Stench of Carrots

Several days ago we introduced carrots to the little guy.  Cooked and pureed.  He loves the taste and ate em up like crazy.  Good news, right?

Not so much, because while they went in well, there’s been trouble coming out the other end.  Poor kid has terrible rotten carrot smelling stinky farts and poops far less frequently.   And oh boy when he does poop…my goodness.  My poor child is living in a stinky cloud, plus those eczema looking patches on his cheek are flaring up.

So we’re giving the carrots a break.  I looked up carrots and infant food on google and read about the nitrates issue.  It doesn’t at all resemble the issues we’re having.   Then I’m thinking that it’s almost like he’s got a mild allergy and his digestive tract is having trouble as a result.  Who has a carrot allergy?

Oh….wait.  There is that weird thing my brother and I inherited from my father where we get hiccups when we eat raw carrots.  Really.  I swear.  It’s uncommon, but not unheard of.  Bless you internet for revealing this to be the widespread problem I never knew it was.

Perhaps these two issues are related?  We may never know, but I for one am hoping the Remster works those carrots out of his system ASAP.  Poor widdle wabbit.

  • carrot allergy?? too funny…well, and stinky. andra has eczema too…we slather her with aquaphor but to no avail…

  • Yes, this carrot allergy has destroyed the social lives of many. Those in our support group have suffered, oh how they’ve suffered but we’ve come together as one great hiccup group to put an end to the stigma. Our leader himself, Bugs Bunny, kept his secret for years but came out of the hiccuping closet to act as spokesperson for other suffers. We are grateful to him and the funds he pours into the group so that people across the world can know they are not alone.

Thank you for letting your suffering be known
    May B-Bug be with you,

    Sincerely,

  • That’s crazy because I swear Sara is allergic to carrots too. I thought it was a coincidence but the few times I’ve fed her carrots she kept spitting up (which she doesn’t normally do) and just seemed uncomfortable. Then we went through a bought of constipation and gas. So I’ve decided to hold off on the carrots for a while. Weird!
