Well, it’s been a little busy around the Parr Crumpler household. I’ve had some billable work, which is great news for the cash flow, but doesn’t do a lot for the frequency of blog posting. Priorities being what they are.
Remy’s still in the almost but not quite yet crawling phase. He can move short distances expending lots of effort. It’s the whole moving his arms to transport his body forward thing that’s stumping him. He’ll get it. In the meantime, we’re finishing up a few overdue projects like adding foamy edge things to our very cool looking but un-baby safe glass tile topped coffee table. Since he’s already grabbing the edge to pull himself up, this is an important project, even if it does uglify our living room. Such is life.
Speaking of pulling himself up to standing, Gary says he pulled himself up in the play pen with zero help then moved around from one side to another. Maybe now he’ll enjoy being in the play pen for more than 3 minutes maximum. That would be a nice development, especially since the door jumper is nearing the end of it’s utility. Now we just plop him on the floor near by. He seems happiest when he can see one of us.
He’s all about cruising already. In fact, crawling will only be a tool to enable him to reach a nearby object upon which to pull himself to standing and then move around. Crawling will also be a tool to enable him to reach every electrical cord and item containing buttons on it within sight. In fact, he sometimes acts like he can’t get up from lying on his back and beats his little fist on the ground to let us know we’re on point to lift him back up to sitting. A few electrical cords within view, and it’s no problem. Now, during last night’s 4am-4:45am secret training frenzy, he demonstrated many times (my eyes were only shut part of the time) that he can go from back to front to all fours to seated if he really wants to. Or maybe just so engaged in what he’s doing, doesn’t realize what he’s doing. Or whatever.
Last Wednesday, Remy started swim lessons with his Daddy. I had work to do so couldn’t go watch, but I understand he did well for the first half then decided he’d rather attempt crawling around in the gutter. So that’s what they did. There are 8 total lessons for the next four weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays. It only cost us $40 because we live in the city. Yay tax dollars!
We just bought a used swing set from our neighbors that are moving to Carrboro soon. It’s not exactly what we had in mind, but should work great and was a good price. Gary and the neighbor carried the swingset down the street to its new home. It looked kind of funny seeing a swingset coming down Loyal Avenue, but that was the best way to transport it. We’ll get some pictures once we have the sand box made.
As for me, my running is plugging right along. I did tempo intervals again last Thursday with no obvious signs of improvement, but who knows. I’m just shooting for 30 miles per week, most of it easy paced. My biking, though, is really coming around. It’s amazing what a little tempo effort will do for you. Had a nice ride with Jerry, pushing each other on this awesomely sunny and warm day to a 20.8mph pace for almost 3 hours. I love my Litespeed Tachyon. That’s one fast bike.

That’s awesome that he’s cruising. Zach likes to pull himself up but he hasn’t figured out he needs to move his feet if he wants to move. He does lots of extreme leaning. The swing set sounds awesome! Remy is going to love that.
