Electric Baby

Gary and I have tried to keep the toy selection as low tech as possible without being totally anal about it, so it’s pretty funny how much fascination Remy has with any thing electronic.  The CD Player, the laptop, and anything else that appears to have buttons yet may or may not actually have buttons.  Unfortunately, we need to break him of the tendency to pound on the laptop keyboards.  More force does not equal better.  How does one teach a 5 1/2 month old fine motor nuance?  Well, we’re working on that.

With his systematic approach to self-learning new things, I would think that he’s destined to be a career of troubleshooting technology if it weren’t for his lack of patience when things don’t go his way after a few tries.  He gets this from his Mommy, admittedly.

It’s fun to see his personality emerge.

P.S.  Was just referred to this parenting blog by a Montessori trained Mom.  Looks pretty good.  I’m adding it to my links list on the right hand side.

No advice about the fine motor nuance thing – I keep telling Zach to do things “gently” when he grabs and pulls on them but this clearly means nothing to him.

And I know you are trying to advoid high tech toys but have you thought about getting Remy one of those Leap Frog toy computers? They have like 8 buttons and are just designed to be beat on. Remy might enjoy having his own “computer” and it might save some of your real computers from being destroyed.
