Spring Fever

The weather has been unbelievable this weekend and it’s supposed to continue through the week. High’s of mid-60′s to 70′s. I’m thrilled with the opportunity to comfortably wear shorts and short sleeves. I’m also concerned about the inevitable return of seasonal weather that’s going to hit us like an ugly cold slap in the face. I had just gotten used to the cold and was appreciating days where the temps reached the 50′s. That was warm…now my body thinks otherwise.

In celebration of this early peek into Spring, I finally made it out with Alisha to ride singletrack on my mountain bike. I did OK, ya know? I only tipped over a couple of times, once because I tried a cyclocross dismount and my foot didn’t come unclipped like I thought it would. Oops. I didn’t land on anything sharp. We were out there close to 2 hours and my brain was getting tired. It takes a lot of mental effort to do something new.

Then I ran after the ride. Yeah, I did a brick and wouldn’t you know it, I ran faster than I have any other time post partum. What kind of freak runs faster AFTER riding than when just running by itself? Gary says that I must have been good and warmed up. Whatever. What a relief to finally start seeing some numbers that give me hope.

Today I ran again. I did Turkey Creek loop from Harrison in 1:18. Not bad for 9.7 hilly miles. The GPS says I slowed quite a bit over the course of the run, so I’ve got some work to do with my endurance. That’s OK, though, because this is only the second time I’ve run that route since 4 months pregnant or something.

Sure was a nice weekend.
