More On The Dinner Deal

To follow up on the previous post about dinner time with the tyke, things are going a lot smoother now.  He stays in the high chair for the duration of the meal, although we don’t use the high chair tray because it’s still too high for him.   The item that keeps him most occupied is a placemat just for Remy.  It is the same kind of placemat that Mommy and Daddy have, which is what makes it so appealing.  It is apparently also delicious.

Also, I have begun with solids, although at a very minimal amount (about half a baby spoon full).  It looks like most of it ends up on his bib.  Tonight I smooshed up a tiny bit of my sweet potato.  He seemed undecided about the flavor but enthusiastically received the spoon when I offered it.  He prefers to hold the spoon himself and does a surprisingly decent job of getting the spoon into his mouth when he wants to.  Not something to be taken for granted.  The smooshed innards of a green pea didn’t go over quite so well last night.  However, he really likes Gary’s squash soup from the previous night’s dinner.  I have to agree on that point.  That squash soup is darn good.

  • Zach loves the spoon as well and ends up wearing most his solids but it makes him really happy just to try and eat. Before having a baby mashed up food all over the place would have really grossed me out but now it doesn’t even phase me.

  • Thanks for sharing the info on what you’re feeding Remy. We’re still a ways off on the solid food eating, but I’ve started to think about it and feel like I don’t have a clue where to start! You’re giving me good ideas though. :)
