Quality Shmality

Strangely, there are people who are interested in my workouts more than they are in baby stories.  It is for you, dear people, that I share this.

Today is chilly rainy day trainer day.  I know there are people out there doing hopped up group computrainer competitions and whatnot, but I just hang out on my back porch music-less and grind away on the powercranks.  Again, I did 54 minutes and followed the same pattern as before.  This time I wore a heartrate monitor.  For kicks.

Turns out it took over 15 minutes before I got my heartrate over 120 bpm and another 10 before I surpassed 130 bpm.  The small amount of time I spent over 140 bpm would be embarrassing if I intended to be at full speed before mid-summer or so, which I don’t.  I did sweat in the humid, windless 40 degree temps for what that’s worth.  While I didn’t expect much, I have to admit that the numbers were even lower than anticipated.

In all fairness, I did do a few minutes of plyometrics and the sled device afterwards, so I’m not totally slacking off.  Plus, my speed has always come around quickly once I start with the quality.  History shows that I’m more at risk for over-cooking by going at it too soon and too often.  It would appear that I’m not at risk for that problem this year, which is just as planned.  Perfect.

Alicia, I am an avid mom-triathlete and love to read about your experience. It sounds like you have a healthy appreciation for the true magnitude of first time parenting. I wish I was as level headed when my son was born. You are doing the EXACT right thing. I was very foolish and did a 10 mile race when my son was 6 weeks old. Uh, and I also nursed. Needless to say, that race season was pathetic because I tried to do too much, too soon. You are going to rock and peak at the right time! Oh, and keep up the baby related posts…Love them!! Remy is adorable!! BTW, my son turns 8 in March and we are now trying for #2. Hope it happens soon! Take care, Clancy

  • Thanks for fixing my link! I’m finally getting back to blogging. :) Are you riding this weekend? Maybe it won’t rain. :) Tell Remy that Zane and Bree said hey!
