I’m told that this is my second Christmas, but I don’t remember the first one so make of that what you will. Truth be told, I’m not sure what Christmas is in the first place. However, here’s what I’ve observed as of late. Survivor, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, The Apprentice, etc. I know it’s the trendy thing to act like I’m too cool to watch reality TV, but I don’t care about all that. I also know that reality TV isn’t actually “real.” The situations are feigned and the conflict is manufactured. Having a child is the ultimate in creative expression. Synergy at it’s finest. A combination of traits morphing with the child’s own personal will. It’s also like a brutal gaze into a behavioral mirror. I recently wrote a piece for TMS Online about developing stretch assignments and put together this nifty graphic that I want to show off on my blog. Also, it’s about time for another blog post. Voila. We have arrived at the next blog post topic. Continue reading Stretch Assignments & Developmental Mastery Remy gives his 15 month report via avatar. In general, my racing goals include doing the five races to qualify for the NCTS series category awards in addition to three age group national championships. Since two of these national championships only require crossing one state line, this keeps travel in check, which is also a priority of mine. So, no, I’m not getting a pro card, since people keep asking that. I’d rather leverage my new (40!) age group using a similar (lower volume) training approach as I did this past year. And not have a lots of long trips to contend with. Besides, I’m really not all that fast any way. Being human and all, I feel compelled to try and recognize patterns in my environment to reduce the unpredicatability of life. Even if it is a fool’s errand. One of the more recently identified patterns was Remy’s napping and daytime feeding habits. I know, I know. I am a foolish woman. I just realized it has been almost a week since my last blog post, so here’s a quick update on how my Fall/Winter running focus is going. I tried to do this a couple years ago, but then I got pregnant (on purpose) and underestimated the effect that first trimester fatigue would have on me. One year ago, I was just trying to get back into shape period, so I’ll refer to this time as part 2 of my self-imposed running challenge. What I like about triathlon and related endurance sport most is the opportunity to feel like a champion for as long as I compete. Let me clarify. I don’t expect to be winning races at, say, age 55, but I do expect champion effort and behavior from myself. It rings like a overused, formless platitude, but to me being a champion doesn’t necessarily mean winning races. Remember the stories about how people just didn’t seem able to break 4 minutes on the mile run? Then one fellow came along and did it, then it became possible and several others did too. That’s me with breaking 40 minutes on an official, certified distance 10k. |
