Had fun at Umstead today with Alisha, Lindsey and Janice on the bikes. Janice has a motor in her– very out of shape due to more stuff than any decent person should have to go through in a 3 year period, but still putting the hurt on the rest of us going up hills. Alisha was fresh off of a 6 hour mountain bike race so there might have been some whining going on about the tiniest hills from her general direction. Although Alisha was all about hitting the single track with no concern about the hills there, so make of that what you will. Me? I’m just post-partum heavy girl doing my best, which wasn’t too bad. I just need to let go of the idea that I can ride the steeper portions of the trail in my middle ring like I used to. I have a triple and I should use it instead of grind away like a dorky-head.
Remy’s working on his rolling skillz too. He’s focused on rolling from his back to his left side. He’s done it accidentally a few times and seems to realize that the result has generally been accompanied by some moderately wild flailing of the arms and legs followed by raising his butt in the air, so he does that a lot. When he does, I nudge him over occasionally. He did it twice on his own today, though. Both times when I walked out of the room for a moment. I don’t know what magic happens when I leave the room, but there’s something going on.
Tomorrow morning I roll out of bed and off to a full day mentorship training session. Then I do the same thing again Tuesday. This will be my first time away from Remy for a full day. Thank goodness Gary will be there to take care of the little guy. One new thing about this experience is that I’ll need to bring the pump because that wouldn’t be cool to not pump for 9 hours or however long I’ll be gone. Totally not cool for a variety of reasons. Trust me on this. That’s not how I roll.

Good luck fitting in the pumping tomorrow. 9 hours – can you imagine? You’d just explode.
9 hours… way too long (no matter if you’re Dairy Queen or Dairy Challenged!)
I hear babies always do their first rollover when you’re not in the room. Moana can roll over already- *if* she’s on the couch and gravity assisted by us pushing the cushion down for her…
Hey Alicia – Marty and I saw you out at Umstead yesterday, but by the time I got my hand up to wave (while in mind saying, I think that’s Alicia and someone…) you two had already passed us. We were both on old clunky mountain bikes enjoying the nice afternoon
In 1972 I was working on my MBA and a buddy on the US Olympic Nordic ski team did an extensive statistical study on members of the team. He was looking for common factors within this population. In other words — what is common among world class athletes. Looked at physical, emotional and other factors. Only one was found significant: ATHLETIC PARENTS! Wonder what Remy will be doing in 15 years.

Hi Glenn,
Thanks for checking in! Cathi Loftin and I look forward to attending the seminar that Michelle Carter and George Smart are putting on in early January about Req Org. I spent the last two days at AOI in Mentor training. It was very good, but tiring!
That is interesting about your friend’s study. When considering the findings in the article about the role of deliberate practice in expert performance, having athletic parents may have impact by these parents modeling deliberate practice habits and encouraging the child to do the same. It will be interesting to see what Remy becomes as time goes by. That’s part of the joys of parenthood, I guess.
Ha, yeah… there was some whining going on… but that singletrack was calling my name!!! It was awesome… some day you’ll have to come on it with me.

I’m glad I got to meet Remy officially last weekend.
) he’s so cute!!!
hope you had a happy thanksgiving…
