Yippee! I logged about a half day’s worth of billable hours yesterday, with 1 1/2 of those actually in an office (commuted the 1 mile by bike thank you very much). I am re-entering the adult world. Yes, there are people that think I’m a professional adult. Ha ha. Suckers! Anyway, this is no 9-5 schedule or even remotely close to that. Gary and I have worked out a rough baby coverage schedule where Gary takes the late night early am shift and I take the not quite as early am to mid-day coverage. We share the afternoon and early evening. It doesn’t always work out this way, but this approach does permit each of us to get at least one chunk of sleep that exceeds 2 hours, which is a big boost towards sanity.
Last night, Remy slept right through Gary’s coverage time and he ended up waking him to get a bottle into him. Maybe we’ll actually encourage such through-the-night sleeping next time around, although when he does wake up, he would be super-famished and probably do that spazzy thing with his head and arch his back in frustration that he’s not being fed 5 minutes ago. So how did we manage to get him to sleep so long? Oh, no design on our part, but a big influencer would likely be constant feedings every 45-60 minutes throughout the evening before he fell out into the deep sleep. Obviously, I wasn’t getting a lot of billable work done during that time (none). Instead, I powered through some stuff after he fell asleep, which had me get to bed a little later than usual.
I even got in a short 18 minute jog yesterday. I’m off to ride to the store to pick up some stuff in a little while. After we feed, of course, because he’s up from the mid-day nap. I can hear his displeasure at Gary making him half naked and using cold baby wipes on his cute little tushie. Oh the drama of infant life.
