As many times as I’ve swum in and rode my bike near Jordan Lake, I’ve never gone down to see the actual dam. Now I have. Gary and I drove there and hiked a few lightly used trails, watched the water rush out the spillway, saw a humongous catfish that some guy caught, made our [...] After putting it off for a couple of days, I made it out to Umstead to do the 10 mile hilly loop for the first time in a while. Since it’s hilly and long, that means walking the steepest uphill parts. I felt OK but not super great at the start, so it was a [...] The weather lately has been the kind that makes me know exactly why it’s great to live here. Warm, but not too. Some rain, but not too much and mostly at night, that leaves the world freshly scrubbed and glowing green with the splash of bright colored spring blossoms taking their turn at blooming. What’s [...] So the lake water is now 70 degrees, which is when I said I’d get back in a start paddling around trying to look like I’m freestylin’ and profilin’. I haven’t swum since Silverman, so it’s been 6 months, which means that not only will I feel differently shaped and awkward, but I will also feel [...] I was going to call this post Potpourri, but that is such an 80′s term. I’m sure there are people who read this who are young enough to ask “pot-po-what?” because does anybody really use that stuff anymore since there are so many better ways to make your home smell good that can’t be spilled [...] We’ve started to give the nursery it’s personality. No longer is it just a few pieces of furniture against some white walls. We got some of that fancy, expensive Safecoat paint in the colors Sky (pretty blue) and Restore (pretty green). It was a multi-step process, but we now have Restore-Sky fade effect on all [...] So here I am post ride. I swear I am getting so big already. It’s like carrying a basketball in my abdomen everywhere I go. There can be no question to the casual observer– that chick is totally knocked up. And I have 4 months to go! Holy crap. That squirmy little fella is growing like [...] Last night I decided it would be a good idea to go to K-Mart to shop for a few things. It wasn’t even a super K-Mart, but one of those old ones with a faded sign and pitted parking lot located in dumpyville where customer service is only available by going elsewhere. So why go there? [...] Ran again in the neighborhood about the same difference but a different route. I thought for sure that two run days in a row would cause a slower run, but I went a tiny bit faster. I’m surprised to be keeping my runs under 10 minute mile pace, but I’ll take it. |
