As high as they are, until I stop seeing people driving around town in Hummers and Escalades, I’m convinced the market can bear more increases. Gary and I watched a ostentatiously large SUV with a single occupant accelerate down the highway in a manner that prompted Gary to say, “And that guy would pay $5 a gallon.” I know, I know…I drive a V6 truck. It’s not like I have a hybrid on anything or even commute by bike. In all fairness, I do live less than a mile from the office I go into occasionally. There is such a thing as a distance too short to commute to justify and change in outfit. I’ve occasionally walked, which I could do more often.

I just found THE BEST story to illustrate the driving behavior I’m describing — http://chuckiev.blogspot.com/2008/04/hurry-up-and-wait.html.
