I tell you what. Us poor little confused North Carolinians don’t know what to think. Five days ago we’re bundling up for sub-20 temps and hopping ice puddles and now we’re sweating in our shorts & short sleeves in the high 60′s. As for my running, the weather doesn’t matter so long as I know how to dress properly. Dry or wet, warm or frigid, it’s always good running weather.
The bike is another story. My last jaunt on the roadie was last Saturday when I got my iBike all set up and picked up a replacement wireless mount to fix that nasty disappearing speed & cadence pairing problem. All that is fixed, so it was worth riding around at 40-something degrees farenheit even if I wasn’t real thrilled with the entire experience. I told myself it was because my legs were tired. From what? Ummm…running, I guess, because it sure wouldn’t be from any riding I’d done recently. Oh, I’ve got it. I’m just out of riding shape. That’s it.
But today’s ride. Oh today’s ride! I went out before we got to full warmth and still it was lovely at 62-64. Warm sun shining, breezes blowing, and wouldn’t you know it, my legs even felt better. Behold the power of a warm day on one’s fitness. It’s like how nice weather can make the stock market go up for no logical reason beyond pscyhology. The iBike worked well in that it spit out an endless stream of numbers, although the tilt setting got off somehow making the unit think I was going uphill almost all the time and therefore pumping out 400-700 watts. Yeah, right. Need to make sure that’s set a little better next time.
But back to the warm weather effect which was so great that I even got in a short run to keep up my consistency. Only miss was Saturday, but I’m back on track and keeping my 7 day average in the 40′s. Good days.
