First of all, we just had a good rain. I can’t tell you how badly our area needs rain right now. Surely there are deserts that have had wetter Augusts than we’ve had in our lovely “green” state of North Carolina.
Earlier today I had a nice, relaxing ride with Bri and Marty Gaal. They tore it up at Lake Norman Tri yesterday with Bri taking first and Marty second in the men’s race. Quite the local royalty of the tri scene! We had a great time and the weather was nice and overcast instead of oppressive for a change.
In other news, I have officially sent in my application for Silverman iron distance triathlon. So you people that have been haranguing me for years to do an ironman, rejoice. I’m a bit unnerved by the whole thing. That’s just a heck of a long day. Plus– the marathon. I was trashed after the two marathons I’ve done and they weren’t particularly fast. OK, so the swim isn’t a big deal. The bike, I’ve been doing well with long rides, but I need to make sure I’m getting enough climbing in. I’ve done the 30k run at the Grand Columbian LC ITU distance last year, and that was tough. This is almost another 8 miles after a much longer ride! Well, I’ll survive it somehow. Until then, I prepare.
But first, I need to finish packing and ready myself for a long flight to Germany tomorrow. The Crumpler and I are going out early to sightsee and acclimate to the time change. I expect that we’ll have internet in Germany, so we’ll take pics and post updates.
Stay tuned!
