Taste The Pain

Drove out to Greensboro this evening for a late day 5k run.  I figure since I have a “pretty important” Olympic Distance Tri coming up soon, maybe I’d better shake those endurance trained legs out with a little lactic loading practice.  Needless to say, I wasn’t at my fastest.  Speed is off, it was obvious as the front of the race sped off into the distance, but the biggest difference from a few months ago is the mental willingness to suffer at the higher intensity.  But ya know, few hard efforts and it gets easier to get those lactate clearing mechanisms working.  We’ll see what happens at Worlds in a week.

After the race, I had nice warm down with the race winner, Jemissa Hess, who is fresh off graduating from NC State and giving road racing a whirl.  So far so good, but there wasn’t a lot of competition there for her.  She and some other local elite runners are heading up to do the CVS 5k up in Rhode Island.  All the best to those girls!

Results from tonight.
