Yesterday I did a run and a trainer workout that ended up feeling easier than I expected. My legs felt tired from workouts earlier in the week, so I kind of expected to struggle a little through the workouts. I just finished reading Roy Palmer’s “Zone Mind, Zone Body” book, so I asked myself if I was in the zone during these workouts. Well, I don’t know. I felt relaxed, expending no more effort than necessary, but enough to achieve the goals of the workouts. Maybe that’s why it felt easy. While we have to push outselves outside the comfort zone at times to generate improvement, I think sometimes it’s good practice to not struggle. To know what it’s like to run relaxed and smooth. To ride relaxed and strong. So when race day comes, I can be motivated, relaxed and FAST.

I’ve just read Zone Mind… also and it blew me away! I loved his theory about the zone but even better was his practical techniques. I been trying them with running and although they are very simple and straight forward they really work. Not sure who this guy is but he certainly knows what he’s talking about!
