We have been spoiled. When late March is sunny and warm enough for shorts and short sleeves, we want to delude ourselves that this is it– Spring has arrived and all the cold crap is behind us.
Not so fast, amigos. Around 9:40pm one evening, we heard the front blow in. It was sudden. It was windy. It was COLD. Arrrgh!!!
What followed was several overnight hard freeze warnings from the weather people to cover your fragile azaleas and lettuce leaves. For those of us that ride, that means pull those booties, vests, warmers and multitudinous layers back out from the bottom of the bucket. You’ll be needing those!
Since 30-something degrees in January & February is slightly less cold (mentally) than it is in April on the heels of unseasonably warm weather, I wussed out of a road ride and bundled up on my cross bike on the tree-sheltered Umstead trails. And then Easter Sunday– you aren’t going to believe it– yes, I did a trainer workout before my transition run. Yes. TRAINER. Believe it.
Then a trip to the parents for beer and ribs and good times.
Spring weather, come back!
P.S. Could be worse though. My buds Stacey & Janelle were really fighting the elements running & riding in blizzard conditions throwing down on the pro womens’ field at 3Sports Long Course Duathlon in Richmond this past Saturday. Cold, bitter wind and snow. That’s just wicked!
