Ho hum, go for an easy trail run, an easy 3 hour ride, whatever. For some reason I plan these things when I’m already tired– add in some lo-intensity volume– and my deranged brain thinks they should be easy. Then I’m out there thinking “ugh my legs are tired.”
Surely this is no big deal, I’ve done worse and done it tired before. In Texas, where everything’s bigger including the open skies, wind velocity and training volume. So, the strange logic goes like this. I’ve done this sort of thing once or twice and survived, ergo, next time it should be easy.
So what do I do when I’m struggling through one of those “easy” workouts? I finish it, albeit sometimes a little shorter than the intended length, even though it isn’t necessarily all that easy. Just like my trail run today. I mean, geez, it was only 1 hour 45 minutes at a really slow pace. That’s ALL. Isn’t that supposed to be easy?
Next up– REST.
