Last night at the gym. someone asked me how much training I did on the trip so I thought I’d add it up to see. For the 7 day training period, here’s what I got.
Swim: 40 min
Bike: 322 miles / 19 hrs 45 min
Run: 61.2 miles / 9 hrs 18 min
Stretching / Self Massage: Lots and lots and lots.
Total Training Time: Just under 30 hours. Of course, this doesn’t include the Snow Bunnie Tri, so we can round up.
For those volume monsters who think this doesn’t sound like much, please understand that my previous weekly high is 18.5 hours (and that probably included some yoga). Also, my previous 7 day running mileage max was 53 miles, when I was training up for Cowtown Marathon a couple years ago. My bike mileage max was 216 in late Spring of 2004. I’ve approached 200 bike miles in a week several times since, but never surpassed it until now. Obviously, I’ve swum more than 40 minutes in a week before. Swimming wasn’t the focus.
I also started the week anemic and nursing a sore hip that somehow didn’t explode into a full blown, training stopping injury. Overall, pretty darned impressive, if I say so myself. I’m just going to pat myself on the back right now. Pat pat. There we go. Yay me.

Nice Job – I think Gordo would call that an Epic training week. Now make sure you allow MORE rest than usual to get the full benefit. Quality over Qantitiy – the volume junkies don’t seem to understand that.
