As I was telling a friend of mine who did a 20 hour training week recently, it takes a while to really recover from a heavy training bout such as my 18.5 hour one in late December. Even a week out from Uwharrie, I still felt rather heavy and sluggish. I accomodated by doing practically nothing the five days leading into Uwharrie hoping I’d emerge from the hole in time. Finally, after a nap in the car and a good dinner, I felt good Friday night. Of course, I then throttled myself over 20.5 miles of single track, but hey… Now for the good news. I’m past that bleah feeling triggered by that big training week. Yes, indeed. Oh, yes, I still have some soreness from the 20 miler, but I seem back to myself. My standard 6 mile run w/ the weighted vest was faster at the same effort today. Yes! So there’s hope for my friend to feel normal again some day. Even my other friend, Mr. I’m unemployed so now I can train 18 hours per week times three. (Show off!)

Alicia, you make me laugh. There is life after a 20.5 hour week – in the form of a 6 hour recovery week. I was feeling fine this week until I heard that I would be doing the big week again in March. Are you in?
Again in March? Sounds like a plan!! I’m in.
